Hi,
It’s hard to believe we’re in December already… I hope you’re more organised for the festive period than I am!
My brief update
It has been a busy year of new things in the Ferrari household: me starting to write seriously being just one of them. Another has been our attempt to lay a new patio… by ourselves!Â
Having removed the old slabs, dug out where the new patio will go, then layers in the sub-base, we’re now roughly a third of the way through laying the new slabs (cold weather has halted things). It’s an activity I’ve never done before, so big shout out to my father-in-law for all his help.Â
Whenever it’s finished, I’ll share a photo (as long as I make a good job of it!)Â
All this to say, my wife and I were tired and we needed a break. We’re just back from a lovely time away spent relaxing and reading lots.
I know I’m really late to the party, but this break allowed me to finally discover Blake Crouch. If you like a mysterious, suspenseful thriller, I can highly recommend Pines (the first book in the Wayward Pines trilogy – I intend to read the others, and when I do, I’ll let you know my thoughts). I also read his standalone novel Upgrade. Check it out if you like a sci-fi thriller. Similarly, I’m probably one of the last people on Earth to have read psychological thriller The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. If you’re in the same situation, consider giving it a go. I enjoyed it.
For the record, I don’t personally know Blake Crouch or Alex Michaelides, nor will I receive any sort of recompense for recommending their books. I just read them and liked them, and thought I’d share that with you.
My current read is one of my dearly departed dad’s favourite-ever books: Earth Abides  by George R. Stewart. I’m actually reading a paperback copy that I bought for him years and years ago. I’ll let you know what I think once I’ve gotten through it.
Lastly, I’m delighted to let you know that I have finished working on a new book. It’s called Water of Sorrow and it’s got some history behind it (you’ll need to read the afterword to learn all about it…)
Oh, and I have a secret to tell you…
Remember With Time to Kill? Well, there’s more for us to explore in that story. I’m currently working on the sequel and I hope to be able to tell you more about it next month.
In the meantime, from my house to yours, please have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I know I always promise dog pics, and this would’ve been a great time to dress our boy up in all sorts of festive nonsense but, honestly, I don’t think I could bring myself to subject him to that! Instead, please enjoy a wee snap of him on our walk yesterday. (Literally seconds later, he took off into the trees to the right in pursuit of a pheasant he was never, ever going to get close to).
All the very best,
Frank
