Hi there!

Well, it’s been a while since I sent out an update… In that time, I’ve been manically working away finishing the next instalment of the With Time to Kill series – it’s called The Dying of the Light: With Time to Kill Book Two and you, dear reader, can feast your eyes on a wee sample of it further down the page.

It’s been off to my editor who – in my opinion – has done a terrific job. He’s also taught me an awful lot that has helped me write better. So much so, that I’ve returned to With Time to Kill: Book One (which he didn’t work on) and have started refining it. But don’t worry! None of the action will change – all of the things that happened when you read it still happen now. They’re just written in a better way.

In case you’re interested in editors, mine is Gideon Roberton. He edited Water of Sorrow as well.

What I’ve been reading

Honestly? I don’t even remember! I feel like I’ve been reading my own work over and over for so long that I don’t recall reading much of anything else over the past few months! I know I read a John Marrs novel – The Marriage Act – and I thought it was an interesting, quirky look at what he calls ‘five minutes into the future.’

A similar feel to Black Mirror, if you’ve ever watched it. (If you haven’t, I recommend it. Particularly if you like a bit sciency, a bit dark, and a bit weird – plus, a new season’s just been released, so there’s plenty to keep you going).

What else have I been up to?

I finally got the patio finished! Well, I got the slabs laid. I still need to grout them, and my wife and I need to decide on the kind of gravel we want to edge it with. There’s a photo later, which also includes Ralph, so two birds with one pic, I guess.

I posted on social media that I’ve reworked the cover of With Time to Kill in preparation for its successor coming along. You are about to be among the first people in the world to see it, together with the new blurb. I haven’t shared this anywhere else yet – I will, but you deserve to see it first. (And I’d love to hear your thoughts! If you have any feedback, please-please-please hit reply and let me know!):

Now, earlier on I promised you a sneak peek at The Dying of the Light: With Time to Kill Book Two and here it is – you can access the first few chapters here (this is the same platform from which you could download your free short story when you subscribed to be on this mailing list).

Full publication is a couple of weeks away, I’d say – sometimes it takes longer than anticipated for a book to go ‘live’ after I submit it. When it’s officially here, you’ll be the first to know.

In the meantime, one last pic before I show you what you really want to see (which I guess is the dog, not the patio) – here’s the cover and blurb for The Dying of the Light. Again, feedback is not just welcome, it’s implored!

All the very best,

Frank
